Marvel Marketing Guru Jim McCann started the Mondo Marvel panel with the usual introduction of panelists: Ed Brubaker, editor Mark Paniccia, C.B. Cebulski, Jason Aaron, Warren Simons, Jeff Parker, Matt Fraction, Kevin Grevioux, Mat Broome and Greg Pak.
Brian Reed joined the panel after C.B. Cebulski had to leave.
Speaking of mondo, tons of announcements came out of the Marvel panel: including an Agents of Atlas ongoing by Parker, a Adam: Legend of the Blue Marvel six-issue miniseries by Grevioux and Broome, a War Machine ongoing by Pak, a six-issue Punisher: War Zone miniseries by Garth Ennis, an adaptation of “Electric Ant” by David Mack.
Grevioux talked about his Blue Marvel series, which tells the story of a black hero in the ’60s who decided to retire after his ethnicity was revealed to the public and his existence eventually covered up. The series shifts forward 40 years to the Avengers discovering the hero and asking him into the fold. The mini starts in November.
Pak also talked about his upcoming War Machine series, which begins in December.
“The book is going to be hard, period, core, period,” said Pak.
Be sure to check WizardUniverse.com tomorrow for an interview with Pak about the new series.
Questions then opened to the audience.
A fan asked Pak if he’d return to the Hulk anytime soon, especially since he hinted that Skaar and his father would eventually meet. Pak said that all will be revealed in due time.
A fan asked if the trend of big major events will ever end.
“I don’t know if it’s big major events so much as serialized storytelling,” said McCann. “What happens in Civil War doesn’t just stay in Civil War. It’s not Vegas. It spills out.”
A fan asked the recent appearance of Danny Ketch in Ghost Rider.
Aaron said that Ketch will be returning along with a number of Ghost Rider villains. He also mentioned issue #27, which features a battle between the two Ghost Riders. McCann put it to a vote to see which character the audience liked better, and Blaze won.
“Ketch is dead,” joked McCann after the vote.
A fan asked McCann about his favorite characters, saying, “Seriously, Dazzler?”
“Seriously, Green Lantern?” retaliated McCann to the fan, who was wearing a Green Lantern shirt. “All she has to do is go, ‘Ooo yellow’ and you’re done.”
A fan questioned about Jessica Drew, to which McCann said that a Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev Spider-Woman series will be coming out after Secret Invasion “with a character in the suit.”
